Stephcynie (pronounced Stef-sih-nee) is an Indie Artist who defines her sound as Americana Soul; a fusion of soul, jazz, folk, classical and rock. Her style is the result of her classical studies at Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA), whose Alumnae includes, Grammy Award winning artists, Beyoncé, Robert Glasper and Brian Michael Cox. And, her jazz studies at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, NY, where she became the first vocalist to win the school’s Beacon Scholar Award.
This New School alum cites John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, Sarah Vaughn, Diane Warren and Israel Houghton as musical influencers. Stephcynie creates a blended melody of all of the music she loves and mesmerizes with a smoky, enchanting tone and her unique vibrato, bringing warmth and brightness to every note she sings. Never one to just stay in the background, in January 2016, Stephcynie penned a sweet love note to her late grandfather in her debut album entitled, "Mr. Edwards." The video to the title track debuted on Billboard.com, where she has been called “An Artist to Watch.” The album was written and recorded by Stephcynie in Nashville and Memphis, TN, using 90% of Nashville based musicians and co-writers, making her a part of the “New Nashville” music movement.
Stephcynie can be seen performing regularly around Nashville, the East Coast and everywhere in between. With a full length album, “Mr. Edwards,” an EP “Contagious Love” (2014), both available on iTunes, her music reflects real life issues that impact the heart but are resolved by love.
